Playing Tug on Walks

It was a slobber knocker after I played tug with Kailani for almost an hour on our walk. Kailani is a staffordshire terrier that loves attention and happy to tug and zoom the whole walk. She has a high energy drive combined with her enthusiasm to engage.

I bought two Fenrir tugs with different handles to use with our larger dogs and they seem really sturdy and made of different canvases instead of plastic.

I also added a few drops of birch oil onto the tugs so that I can transition to objects in my scent detection games. Having another object with the birch oil will help associate positive feelings towards hunting for the odor. Using the tugs are a great way to reward for odor without feeding a lot of treats. Other dogs have been apprehensive about scent cans but are happy to tug so using the scented tug will help their progress.

Please contact us if you’re interested in tug games for your dog. We are also currently available for weekly home visits to Del Mar, Torrey Pines, Carmel Valley and Solana Beach.
